Two days down and Tobago Sail Week is living up to its reputation as the 'friendliest regatta in the Caribbean'

As the sun went down over Tobago last night, party time at Angostura Tobago Race Week had already started. Following a hard day on the water competitors gradually made their way back on shore in the balmy, tropical heat to enjoy the second night of race week fun.

One of the highlights of the evening was the entertaining prizegiving ceremony where many who’d been presented prizes having to give them back because the results sheet was incorrect. When one competitor, crewman off Jacana, had to return his prize three times, there was no stopping the hysterical laughter and banter as rum continued to flow throughout the ceremony.

With the sun setting on the horizon, the sound of the breaking waves on the beach, and the beat of the local Soca music adding to the atmosphere, there was no doubt that the Tobago Hilton-sponsored race day party would be a success. Vollyball under the moonlit sky, rum drinking contests, and dancing were just a few of the options. But as all seasoned party-going sailors know, every party has its penalty. Sore heads and lack of sleep were more than evident this morning as pasty-faced crews crabbed their way along the palm trees groves towards the pontoon in an effort to avoid the early morning sun.

Fortunately they all seemed to cope with one round-the-cans race today for the DHL Worldwide Express trophies despite the 20-25kt east-north easterly breeze.

Crews are now making their way back on shore to prepare themselves for tonight’s DHL ‘Express yourself’ party. Something tells me it’s going to be one of those nights!
