Eight home boats were joined by five visitors for the National 12 Chipstead open meeting on 8 June. They were met by extremely light and shifty southerly breezes for the first race. Geoff Camm and Amelia Hall were first into the windward mark, closely followed by Mike Hoyle and sister Liz (the first time they had sailed together for 25 years!)

After much changing of position, Mike and Liz broke away to win the race with Geoff and Amelia second, followed by David and Josie Greening in third place. The second race saw slightly more wind, and again Geoff and Amelia were first to the windward mark with the rest of the fleet close on their heels. Again there was much changing of position throughout the race, eventually David and Josie won, with Geoff and Amelia second followed by Mike and Liz third.

It was all down to the last race. The last race brought more wind and a change of direction, to provide a better beat. Geoff and Mike lead the fleet up the first beat closely followed by Andy Savell and David Greening. This turned into a closely fought race with Geoff, Andy and Mike all taking turns to lead the race. The final victors were Mike and Liz with Geoff and Amelia in second and Andy and Harry third. Despite the light conditions a challenging days racing was enjoyed by all.
