A total of 25 Larks entered the Easter Egg regatta at Waldringfield SC last weekend. In a cold, gusty north-easterly Force 5-6, locals Harry Pynn/Oliver Woolgar led around the windward mark, only to be tipped in by a big gust, allowing Steve Dunn/Tegwyn Roberts to take the lead. Although Dougal Scott/Ruth Johnson passed Dunn/Roberts on the very fast run, a misunderstanding in finishing procedure saw half the fleet not finish, meaning Dunn/Roberts took the honours.

Sunday saw the wind still blowing a gusty easterly Force 4-5. Alan Krailing/Pauline Baker took the lead from the start with Scott/Johnson, Matt White/Clare LaForge and Rob Larke fighting it out for second. Krailing pulled out a big lead and went on to win with Scott/Johnson second. Dunn/Roberts led race three at the windward mark followed by Geoff Mayhew/Kim Lamb and Fish/Whitehouse. The lead changed between Dunn/Roberts and Fish/Whitehouse a number of times with Dunn winning and Pynn/Woolgar coming through to finish third.

Race five was sailed at low tide on Monday morning with the wind blowing a welcome and warmer south-westerly Force 3-4. With a long beat against the tidal stream, Pynn/Woolgar broke away from the fleet and went on to win. Krailing/Baker played the shifts well and came through to finish second with Dunn third.

The meeting was down to the last race, sailed in an increasing wind. Chris/Cathy Fish took the initial lead but allowed brother, Jon, and Dunn/Roberts to sneak through. Dunn took the lead downwind, leaving Scott/Johnson and White/LaForge fighting for third spot. Scott’s OCS left third place to White/LaForge.
