Later than predicted start for Geronimo and last minute crew change

Geronimo will cast off later than originally planned today because the weather system is developing slower than expected. The current situation is for Olivier de Kersauson and his crew to cast off between 1700 and 1800 today and to head up to the start line between the Creac’h light and Lizard Point. The decision of precisely when to cross the line will be taken by the skipper based on the latest data from his weather team and the actual sea conditions at the time.

One of Geronimo’s crewmembers, Rodolphe Jacq, is suffering from a slipped vertebral disc. After a medical examination and discussion with Olivier de Kersauson, he has decided not to remain aboard for this attempt on the record. Rodolphe will be replaced by Xavier Douin, who crewed on the catamaran’s attempt on the Round Britain and Ireland record. It’s a bitter blow for Rodolphe, who has been working on the project for two years, but the risk of aggravating his condition is just too high for him to sail under these circumstances.
