Despite losing use of his legs, Maj Phil Packer aims to complete an offshore challenge for 'Help for Heroes'

Major Phil Packer RMP – who was injured in a rocket attack in Basra, Iraq, leaving him paraplegic – has committed himself to raising £1,000,000 for Help for Heroes, a charity set up to support injured service personnel from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Major Packer intends to do this by carrying out a number of sporting challenges, to prove disabilities do not prevent living a full and rewarding life. One of these challenges is to complete an offshore sailing course, with other wounded colleagues from Hedley Court Rehabilitation Centre.

The course is likely to start and finish off the coast of Plymouth later in the year. Although not on the same scale as the Vendée Globe or Volvo Ocean Race, the challenge will be a daunting one for the crew, which is why they deserve your full support and encouragement.
