The clipper fleet have embarked on the last legs of the Clipper Round the World Yacht race 25/07/06

The clipper yachts left St Helier, Jersey in The Channel Islands, for Race 12 to Holyhead, expecting to cross the start line off Noirmont Point, Jersey at 1815 tonight. They will make a brief pit stop in Holyhead before they embark on the final exciting leg, Race 13, to Liverpool after racing for ten months and covering 35,000 miles.

The race finishes at the Albert Docks in Liverpool on the 29 July. It’s set to be a spectacular event and will be attended by relatives, locals, dignitaries, even celebrities and international media. Liverpool, capital of culture 2008, will be putting on a great family show, complete with music, aerial displays and a flotilla of local vessels.

With competition so tight, all is still to play for in the final stages of this year’s Clipper event. Tension is building and nerves are running high amongst the fleet now, as each Clipper will have their sights set on the remaining 15 points up for grabs and the finish line of the next two races.
