The second day of the BUSA Student Yachting National took place yesterday (27 March)

The second day of the BUSA Student Yachting National Championships at Plymouth took place yesterday (27 March).

Six windward/leeward races were successfully completed by the 18 teams, thanks to superb race management from Plym Yacht Club, Plymouth and the Principle Race Officer, Mike Pearson.

A cold and cloudy start made way for bright sunshine and a moderate breeze from the south-east creating an excellent day’s racing.

The high standard of competition was maintained throughout the fleet, despite large wind shifts under Jennycliffe Bay and strong spring tides within the Sound.

Southampton Institute 2 had the best day, with two first places, two second places a third and fourth, to lead the event overall with one offshore race remaining today. Plymouth Boathow.com, had a good day with a couple of first places to be only two points off the lead.

Today’s long offshore race is set to be an interesting battle for first place between these two teams. With this race non-discardable any of the top four teams could take first place and represent the UK in the Student World Cup, in France later this year.

1st Southampton Institute 2, Michael Henning (Skipper) – 20 pts

2nd Plymouth Boathow.com, Sam Stevens (Skipper) – 22 pts

3rd Southampton University, Trevor Child (Skipper) – 30 pts
