British sailors have scored top results at this year's Palamos Christmas regatta which finished yesterday 23/12/06

British sailors have scored top results at this year’s Palamos Christmas regatta. Mark Powell won the Laser class, Alison Young won the Radial and Luke Patience and Twiggy Grube won the 470 Mens event. Hannah Mills and Rachel Larman just missed a podium place, finishing fourth in the 470 Womens event.

The traditional Palamos Christmas regatta was brought forward one week from 27 to 30 December to 17 to 22 December this year. This allowed the five days of competition to adapt to the ISAF Olympic regatta format: series races during the first days of the event followed by a Medal race on the last day in which only the top 10 classified in each class compete.

The local Tramontana wind returned for the final race day in Palamos, blowing between 15 and 22 knots. Giulia Conti and Giovana Micol of Italy won the 470 Womens class, and Olympic champions Iker Martinez and Xabi Fernandez of Spain the 49er. Spain’s Rafael Trujillo Villar won the Finn event.

The participating classes were: 49er, Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 470 Men & Women, other classes were cancelled.
