The America's Cup team starts training with Groupama and Gitana on their Extreme 40s

Valencia Sailing.com has reported new activity off the Spanish town’s shores, as BMW Oracle have begun training on Extreme 40s. And unless Alinghi and BMW Oracle reach an agreement towards a multi-challenger conventional America’s Cup, it could be argued that the build up to the 33rd America’s Cup began yesterday afternoon.

The Challenger of Record have been training for many months on their monster 90ft trimaran, but there was always a possibility that the giant boat could become obsolete – in case of a negative outcome in the court case – and turn it into what could be the most expensive and high-tech hospitality yacht.

BMW Oracle have now started training on the Extreme 40 yachts – together with the French teams Groupama and Team Gitana. The Americans are using two yachts, one helmed by James Spithill, and a second helmed by Austrian skipper Roman Hagara.
