Hundreds of visitors will flock to Cowes tomorrow morning to attend the official naming ceremony of Peter Harrison’s GBR Challenge America’s Cup yacht GBR70 Wight Lightning. HRH the Princess Royal will christen the yacht accompanied by five-year-old George Pickering, the winner of Blue Peter’s America’s Cup yacht name competition.

The event will start at 1130 with speeches by Peter Harrison, the former Chernikeeff Networks boss (pictured left) and Ian Walker, double Olympic gold medallist and GBR Challenge skipper. Other events planned for the day include performances by the duo Faye Tozer from the band Steps and the popular young opera star Russell Watson who’ll be debuting their single, Someone Like You.

The make the day one to remember, the entertainment will continue in to the evening with a glitzy gala dinner for over 800 guests.

Although Wight Lightning will not be launched until she arrives in Auckland, the sailing team will continue their intense training regime using Harrison’s Farr 52.
