Records likely to fall

The monster 140ft trimaran Banque Populaire is just 70 miles from the finish of the Fastnet sailing at more than 26 knots. Not far behind are Gitana and the two MOD70s Race For Water and Veolia Environement who have been sailing consistently at over 20 knots back from the Rock.
Further back and with no prospect of getting to the Rock is Beau Geste who has reported structural damage and has retired. The nod is ICAP Leopard’s Fastnet monohull record of 44hr 18min and 53sec
will probably fall to Rambler although she has been slowed by sail damaage.
