Racing goes to the wire in the final race of B14 Europeans at Whitstable 27/6/06

After a night of hard partying the B14 fleet arrived on the beach to a building south-easterly sea breeze for race six of the Europeans at Whitstable YC.

The first race of the day got off at the first attempt in a building Force 2. On the first beat the fleet split to either side of the course with Readycrest (Mark Barnes/Karen Wiseman) and 763 (Don Forster/Kate Forster) leading in from the left.

Readycrest led round the windward mark followed 763 and PICA (Mark Watts/Tim Rogers). During the race Readycrest pulled away to a commanding lead with the following boats changing places all the way to the finish. At the finish Readycrest won from CSC (Chris Bines/David Gibbons) and Gutted Hedgehog (Matt Searle/Richie Bell).

Race 7 and the breeze had built to a Force 3. At the start Readycrest and CSC collided with both boats managing to extricate themselves and once back on the course pulling up through the fleet. At the windward mark it was Gutted Hedgehog followed by 763 and CSC.

On the next two rounds CSC and Readycrest passed 763. However, on the last run Readycrest fouled their kite and slipped to fifth. At the finish Gutted Hedgehog won from CSC and PICA.
There were now only two boats in the hunt. Race 8 and the breeze had increased to a Force 3-4. CSC had to win or beat Gutted Hedgehog by two places. Off the start there was nothing in it with Gutted Hedgehog, 763 and Readycrest leading out to the left and CSC and PICA out to the right.

At the windward mark it was Gutted Hedgehog from 763 and CSC. The downwind reaches were now fully powered up with the front five boats very closely bunched. As the race progressed Gutted Hedgehog stamped there authority on the lead followed by CSC with Readycrest moving into third. At the finish it was Gutted Hedgehog from CSC and Readycrest.

Gutted Hedgehog won a well-deserved Championship with CSC in second and Readycrest in third.
