America's Cup yacht NZL 82 is tested after her controversial hula is removed

Remember the hula? It was a sort of second hull fitted to part of the Kiwi America’s Cup defender’s hull in 2003. The theory was that it made the boat faster by ‘thinking’ it was longer than it really was.

Under new rules for ‘version 5’ boats the hula is banned so NZL 82’s has been removed. And you know what? After early trials Grant Dalton reports that it made no difference at all to her performance.
