Light, fickle winds play games with Mumm 30 fleet at the world championship in Italy

Lack of wind caused a postponement for the second day of racing at the Mumm 30 world championship being held at Cagliari in Italy. However, once the breeze began to fill in racing commenced at 1400.

Two races were sailed in 3-7 knots of breeze which gave tacticians a tough day contending with 20 degree windshifts. In the first race of the day (series race three) 11 boats were OCS and none returned. And in the second race of the day several protests were filed following a pile up at the leeward mark.

Due to the ever decreasing wind, the race committee wisely decided not to run the scheduled third race of the day. Weather permitting, an extra race will be held today (Friday) in addition to the three scheduled races.
