Chris Turner and Simon Maguire win Albacore International Regatta & UK National Championship at Lyme Regis

Sunshine graced the final day of the Albacore International Regatta & UK National Championship at Lyme Regis Sponsored by Kangaroo Poo but a fickle breeze meant that competitors missed the famed Lyme waves under a Force 4-5 south-westerly.

Instead, the last race of the International Regatta was held in an F1-2 easterly breeze which died during the race then rebuilt with the sunshine.

Chris Turner and Simon Maguire from the home club, were already the Regatta winners so chose to sit out the final race. Principal Race Officer Alan Tyler opted for a gate start with a weather-going tide and most of the leaders were early out of the gate. Barney Harris and David Byron from the West River SC on Chesapeake Bay USA led round the first mark and went on to win from Neville Herbert and Steve Penfold with Mike Holmes and Colin Smith in third (again!). Mike McNamara and Robin Barker were fourth which was enough to gain them second place overall in the Regatta followed by Neville Herbert and Steve Penfold in third.
