A steady stream of dignitaries to see the sailing Olympics at Weymouth and Portland

A steady stream of dignitaries has been arriving this week at the Weymouth and Portland sailing centre to check out the sailing Olympics.

As Team GB Ambassador, the Duchess of Cambridge visited on Monday. Ben Ainslie showed her his Gold medal.

I don’t know the Duchess knows how to sail dinghies, but I’d bet on it. She has shown herself to be a dab hand at table tennis and hockey already, and I’m sure if you put her in a Laser Radial she could give you a good run for your money.

Yesterday Ben Ainslie went out on a spectating boat with David Cameron. Cameron definitely does know how to sail. He used to race Enterprises.

Also out on the water this week watching the racing were the Princess Royal, a keen cruising sailor who owns a Rustler that she sails in Scotland, and Sir Steve Redgrave.

I read a report today that quotes Team GBR sailing team leader Stephen ‘Sparky’ Park who said that the prime minister was very well informed about the format and scoring of races and added that he seemed ‘very bright’. That made me laugh.
