Who's the hero of the Southern Oceans?

Did Tony Bullimore really mean that he was heroic for being rescued in the Southern Ocean? I thought so – that phrase ‘sparking off the biggest ocean rescue’ sounded strangely prideful.

Others are more ready to give TB the benefit of the doubt. ‘Did he not mean, the Oz Navy were the heroes?? Surely not himself?’ emailed Rob.

And from Peter Bernfeld: ‘Depends on how you read his statement. I take it to mean the “Colonial Navy” were heroes to attempt a rescue in the prevailing conditions; you take it to mean that it was heroic to be the cause of the rescue operation.”
