Competitors emerged this morning from a hard night of partying at the Skandia Cowes Week Fireworks extravaganza. This morning however, brings little change in the conditions with a light north to north-westerly breeze easing during the morning. With the land heating up however, there's an 80 per cent chance of a sea breeze developing during the afternoon for the final day's racing. And if the past couple of days are anything to go by where a decent breeze reaching 20kts has developed in the western Solent, competitors should stand by for a grand finale.
As well as many overall results from the 34 classes yet to be decided, there's the overall results for Black and White groups resting on the final race today. There are just four points separating the top four in the White Group with Graham Bailey currently leading the fleet in the Etchells class. In the Black Group Tim Spalding and team on the Beneteau 40.7 Amey Loveshack are well in the running but they need to keep an eye on Colm Barrington's TP52 Flashglove.
On shore, watch out for the Blades Aerobatic Display team who'll be up in the air at 1800 tonight with a dynamic 12-minute formation display. According to Cowes Week organizers, there'll be four pilots in four planes performing extraordinary airborne feats.
The overall Skandia Cowes Week prizegiving will take place an hour later at 1900 at the Cowes Yacht Haven.
