LogicaCMG has overhauled BG Group to take the lead

At just over 24 hours into the race we were already round The Scillies and heading for Ireland. With winds previously over 30 knots, we’ve been barrelling along since the start.

Our start went according to plan, we stayed safe, I think even managing to cross the line second to Spirit of Southampton. The four lead boats didn’t gamble with spinnakers, opting for the safer almost bomb proof option of poled out headsails, and as we saw both Vail Williams and Team Spirit broach under spinny, it seems caution pays at this early stage.

Since coming on watch at 1300, we’ve had our mad Shetlander Angus on the helm, and have overhauled BG Group to take the lead. But anything can happen, it’s a game of cat and mouse with many days to go.
