Swing, lift, pump or dump, canting keels or water ballast. You might have thought all possible methods of achieving more stability had been explored. Apparently not. A new design concept claims to provide a novel solution to one of the most fundamental issues of yacht design - stability and how to generate it.

The new idea comes from UK-based yacht designer Hugh Welbourn, who claims his patented invention will not only develop more stability and improve performance across a broad spectrum of sailing monohulls, but will also help reduce the displacement of future boats, further enhancing the performance gains.
